How to Prepare for a Photoshoot

A beautiful photograph is created long before we pick up the camera. Here is a guide for how to prepare before the photoshoot.

1. Journal

Who do you want to see in the photographs? Use adjectives to describe your ideal self. We can show you that person, so share what you feel comfortable at the styling appointment.

2. Do Not Spray Tan

If you are considering a spray tan before your photoshoot, cancel it. Even the best applications of spray tan will wear off unevenly with hand washing and friction from clothes.

3. Stay Out of Sun

Sun (and spray tans) are portrait killers. The most flattering skin is the closest to your natural color.  The chest and neck is often overlooked, so either coverup or wear sunblock if you are out in the sun.

4. Practice Small Acts of Self-Love

In the days and weeks leading up to your session, prioritize self-care. Whether it’s a relaxing bath, a favorite skincare ritual, or spending time doing something you love, these moments will help silence objections and bring you back to the journey of your ideal self.

5. Roots Retouch

We can not retouch hair roots. So, if you color your hair, plan to touch up your roots before your session. A fresh trim can also help your hair look healthy and shiny.

6. Hydrate Inside and Out

Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session. Well-hydrated skin appears plump and radiant, making it easier for your makeup to sit flawlessly.

7. Embrace Your Body as It Is

There’s no need to lose weight or change your appearance for your photoshoot. If you have the desire to diet, instead practice self-love with more exercise and adding additional healthy foods.
